Smooth or Chunky?

No, not peanut butter.  Applesauce!

Tonight was leftovers from our "Thanksgiving Dinner" last night.  Turkey Sandwiches were on the menu, which worked out well because we all seemed to eat in shifts.  I had a little sandwich bar going with breads, turkey, cranberry sauce and stuffing(or as some call it, dressing). Some of us got a little piggy:

To add a little excitement, I made some homemade Applesauce.  We are chunky people in my house(I'm not referring to our bodies, I'm referring to our applesauce)!  And I would say, light on the chunky scale.  I make it by coring as many different types of apples as I can find and throwing them into a pot with a couple of tablespoons of water.  Cover and cook until soft.  Then I put them all through a great ricer that I have(which is like a sieve with a press on it).  With the skins on until the end the applesauce gets some nice pink color to it.  If we're in the mood for really chunky, I cook them the Martha Stewart way:  peel, core and cut into chunks.  Cook until soft and then just mash with a big spoon.  Sometimes if I am really feeling wild, I'll add a little lemon rind and honey.  But, anyway, the applesauce was a hit tonight! When I came home from a meeting the empty bowl was sitting on the counter.  Why know one could put it in the dishwasher is another story!  So, for those wondering about the finished product, here it is:

If you haven't made applesauce, you are missing out on one of life's yummy pleasures!! So easy and I promise you, there will be an empty bowl on your counter too!
